Welcome back, adventurers! In the latest episode of Armchair Adventures, our head travel agent and host, Connie, along with special guest adventurer Amy Powney from Mother of Pearl, take us on a fun and educational journey into the world of sustainable fashion.
We previously joined Connie and the fabulously sustainable fashion designer Amy, to explore where our fabrics come from. We visited a sheep spa, where they farmed wool, floated on lovely cotton clouds, and even encountered a friendly oil monster deep deep down underground. It was his 256 millionth birthday to boot! 🥳
Connie and the gang throw Ollie a birthday party, with all sorts of party games! Everyone is having a lovely time, but Connie worries about ordering the prom dress she wanted from a fast fashion website, now that she has learnt more about fossil fuels and their impact on fashion. Connie decides to wear her mum’s old prom dress instead of buying a new one.
Connie: No problem! Do you know what everyone, forget about this new plastic oil dress, I’m going to go sustainable and wear my mum’s prom dress.
Keith: There’s still one item in the wardrobe we haven’t learnt about too, the pants made of trees!
Amy: Then there’s only one thing for it! Back in the wardrobe everyone… I think I’m getting the hang of this journey of the imagination magic Connie…
Next, the adventurers say goodbye to Oily the oil monster, and blast off to a beautiful forest to find out where Amy’s trousers come from. But the adventure takes a turn when they spot workers cutting down trees and a very disgruntled red squirrel! The group prepares to protest, but Amy explains that the forest they are in is protected, so the squirrel’s house will be safe! The workers will stick to their own part of the land and are replanting trees to replace what they cut down.
Connie shows everyone a picture of her in her mum’s prom dress. It looks very…interesting! Amy suggests she reworks the dress for her, back at her fabulous fashion studio. The gang all squidge back into the rocket wardrobe and blast off!
Returning to Amy’s studio, the adventurers learn about reworking old clothes into new styles. Everyone gets involved in cutting, stitching, and designing unique outfits from reused materials. Connie is over the moon with the dress Amy creates for her, made out of all the old material of her mum’s prom dress.
The episode finishes with a fabulous fashion show, where everyone, including the adventurers, struts their stuff on the catwalk in their reworked outfits. Connie’s new outfit, designed by Amy, sustainably steals the show!
Through this imaginative journey, we learn the importance of knowing where our clothes come from and the benefits of reusing and recycling fashion. Amy proves that sustainable fashion can be stylish and fun, encouraging us to make eco-friendly choices.
Next time you pick out clothes, check the labels and see if you’re wearing a tree, plant, or even a sheep’s fleece adventurer!
