The Johnny Barlow Theatre Company.
Share your lived experience and creativity to spark social change.
The Johnny Barlow Theatre Company gives people the opportunity to make original productions while working with world-class, professional artists.
Our members bring their creativity and lived experience—and in return, they enjoy friendship, confidence, and being part of something that positively shapes public services.
Music, drama and fun
The group is open to anyone over 18. You don’t need music or drama experience – it’s all about fun, friendship and exploring your creative side.
You may want to find a new purpose, be part of something that makes a difference, or try out a new skill like acting, music, podcasting or creative writing. Whatever you choose to get involved in, you’ll be part of inspiring, uplifting music and drama productions and a warm, supportive community.
Best of all, you don’t need music or drama experience, and the group is free to join. Everything is funded by Made By Mortals, plus monthly community lunches, Christmas parties and much more.
Who was Johnny Barlow?
Johnny Barlow was a theatre pioneer in Greater Manchester who believed in the power of drama to help people recover from mental illness.
He founded the group over 30 years ago and was actively involved well into his 90s before handing the reins to Made By Mortals.
Today, the group is stronger than ever, using music and drama not only to boost well-being but also to impact public services for the better.
Where and when?
The group meets every Thursday afternoon at Guide Bridge Theatre in Audenshaw, Tameside.
